Case Study:

How FRP Can Protect Tree Roots

Challenge

The client had the challenge of protecting tree roots from damage caused by pedestrian traffic while maintaining the walkway’s aesthetic and functional aspects.

Solution

We provided our FRP micro mesh grating as an effective barrier between the imposing tree roots and the walkway path. FRP grating is lightweight, strong, and flexible, making it ideal for protecting tree roots. It helps keep the soil loose, preventing soil erosion and can be easily customised to fit the shape and size of any tree. Additionally, with a 7 mm aperture and fine grit surface, it is a comfortable and non-slip flooring solution for bare feet and various shoe soles.

Outcome

Using our FRP grating to protect tree roots proved to be an effective and cost-efficient solution. The grating’s durability, slip resistance, low maintenance, and corrosion resistance made it the go-to flooring choice for public walkways. By installing FRP grating, the urban development project ensured that the walkways were safe, aesthetically pleasing, and long-lasting. The micro-mesh grating provided a comfortable walking surface, enhancing the overall experience for pedestrians. This project demonstrated how urban planners could create inviting spaces while minimising maintenance efforts and costs, ultimately prioritising pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and tree protection.
